The modern kitchen must stand up to the modern demands made upon it – in many homes the requirements from the appliances are speed and self-clean technology. Speed, because that is the very essence of fast-food, and self-clean because life, for some, is too short to scrub the inside of an oven or microwave. Alongside improvements in speed and maintenance, however, there have been improvements and developments in all facets of the modern appliance, so that today, they probably offer an unparalleled degree of professionalism – something of great importance to the talented amateur cook. Many family kitchens are in full use on a daily basis as parents determine to provide healthy and delicious meals to their families. It is not just the technical prowess of an appliance that interest people, but also the environmental impact of production and of course, energy consumption. At Michael Wright Furniture, we are aware that any appliance recommendations we make must take as many factors into account as possible, and brands that tick all of the boxes are Miele, Sub-Zero and Wolf. Miele have recently launched their Generation 5000 series of appliances with their commitment to provide the very best range of products that deliver a host of exciting new innovations, new products, new features and market leading performance. Miele have made many technological advances in their appliances and this has meant that the touch sensitive controls offer superior performance and sophistication delivering intuitive operation. High quality brushed stainless steel surfaces have given the Miele appliances a new finish that is resistant to fingerprints and soiling. The Miele single oven capacity has grown by 30% to deliver 66 litres of space. New side hinging doors on the Miele ovens ensure easy access and added user convenience. Miele also offer the new 45cm compact oven and a range of steam ovens. Many of the Miele ovens offer a Moisture Plus function that introduces steam at various stages of the cooking process – fantastic for home bread bakers! All mid and high-end Miele models feature an air clean catalyser for baking, roasting and pyrolitic cleaning programmes. This is maintenance free over the life of the oven. Many of the Miele ovens offer a wireless food probe which signals when the meat is cooked to your liking – no cables to get in the way, and when it’s not in use it slots into a special holder in the oven door. For easy maintenance there is, on a number of the Miele models, a sensor controlled pyrolitic cleaning facility that reduces food residue to ash which is then simply wiped away; the cleaning duration is controlled automatically and the air clean catalyser ensured that odours are taken care of too. Combination possibilities are extensive; no matter how you want your kitchen to look, the range of Miele built-in appliances all match one another and are designed to fit perfectly together. The quality and design of Sub-Zero and Wolf appliances is self evident – sculpted from steel, glass and aluminium and tested to exacting standards, these appliances are icons of kitchen equipment. Sub-Zero have perfected the art of storage of frozen food at ultra-low temperatures (hence Sub-Zero) and Wolf equipment has been put to the test for over 70 years in the kitchens of the most demanding restaurants and now available to the most demanding home cook. In fridge/freezers, fresh food needs humid air to stop it drying out and frozen food needs dry air to stop freezer burn, yet most fridges circulate the super-dry cold air from the freezer, through the refrigerator and back to the freezer again. The two-compressor, dual refrigeration system in every Sub-Zero fridge means that no air, moisture or unwanted aromas pass between the refrigerator and the freezer. To make doubly sure your salads and vegetables stay crisp, special crisper drawers do exactly that – keep everything crisp and crunchy. Short, tall, narrow or wide, built-under or over, Sub-Zero appliances fit flush to the sleek lines of your kitchen – but if you prefer, you can fit your own cabinet panels to match the rest of your kitchen. The Sub-Zero wine storage units offer two independent storage zones, sealed and digitally controlled to offer a range of 3 degrees centigrade (for whites) to 18 degrees centigrade (for reds). They are also fitted with UV-resistant glass to protect wines from premature ageing. Wolf only make cooking equipment and consequently deliver performance and technology honed over 70 years. They know, for example, that even heat is essential which is why a Wolf cooker offers two fans, each with a dedicated heating element. The Wolf built-in oven (at your eye level) offers a full-extension bottom rack that slides directly on to the oven door to baste up to 34kg of food; shutting the heavy-duty door on this Wolf oven is facilitated by a hydraulic door damper system. The Wolf gas hobs once lit, stay lit, even at the lowest settings – and in the unlikely event of a flame going out, they automatically relight. The Wolf electric cooktops offer true simmer on all elements so that soups and sauces are held at the ideal temperature (93 degrees), so no scorching. Demanding cooks can even create a cook top from a range of Wolf modules – including fryer, steamer, induction hob, grill or multi-function hob.
